OK today was shearing day. Once a year we shear *most* of the sheep (leaving a few for demonstarations - 6 this year)

So I get to the mill at about 8:30 and get ready, and I'm all set for what I do. Catch the sheep, move the sheep, trim the feet and hold the sheep for the sheerer. All is going fine - I have lots of help and I don't need to do much of the flieing tackle stuff (or really to much that owuld hurt my back) and then a film crew starts setting up. Well if I knew I was gonna be filmed I would have worn a clean shirt. Well it turns out they need footage of hand sheering in peiord clothes "your gonna have to do this" was what I got. OK I cna do this. I borrow clothes, change and suddenly relize that a) I'm whereing work boots (not time period appropreat), b) socks that only come up about 2 inches over the top of the boots, c) I haven't shaved in a few weeks. Look I *know* I had that dream that included the words "you haven't shaved your legs' but really no one should be looking ato my legs for WEEKS yet.

Anyway, get the sheep down and get to sheering. clip, clip, THONK as the sheep hits me in hte chin with her head. A colceted groan goes up a) because it obvously hurt and b) becasue there may not be film of it. Anyway sheerd the thing and there is tape of me fliping out and folding up a fleace. It's going to be part of the DE tourist board film. I was told that I have a very interesting face and expresions.

Wade is hurt - I htink he fell off of a pile of rocks he shouldn't have been able to get too. Other people have noticed how he acts towards me. when he sees me his eyes go all big and soppy - he followes me around and he's milking this twisted ankle to make me come and poke at him. When I hold him he runs his head along my cheek. We are going to have to get rid of him, simply becasue he is so attached. He is very handsome and (if his leg gets better) he will sell for money. Having a ram that is that attached to someone can be dangrous.

Tired now and am going to bed soon.

So what are you doing with the fleece?

Are you going to MD sheep and wool? I can only go on Sun.

Take care!

We sell some and use the rest in the programs at the Mill. If you need any I can see waht I can do - but it's not excatly P.A. for you - well the Merino is, or I should say could be.

I haven't decided about Sheep and Wool. I still have 3 ewes to lamb out and one of them is my tiny little ewe. I think a group is going down Sunday, so if I go it'll be then. I'll let youknow, maybe we can meet up...

I hope you get to go on Sun. It would be great to see you.

I'm pretty set for raw wool actually, unless any of it is colored. I have a real weakness for natural colored fleece.

Good luck with the lambs!

Nope, all wight. We die on site so we need uncolored wool. I;ll have to see if the car is full or not - I don't really have the gas money...LOL
