Taking a break writing post

I’m taking a break from writing to – well write.

This week’s writing quote is “As they say in horseback riding, you must first send your heart over the fence”

The quote is from Writers’ little book of motivation. Now I have to be honest here I marked that piece because I think the author may have used it incorrectly. A lot of riding is about visualization. If you see yourself on the other side of the fence (still on your horse) you are much more likely to get there then if you think you are going to fall. In a moment of doubt a horse will – well get away from you. I guess the same can be said for a novel, but I think in a moment of doubt a novel is more forgiving. It may take a new direction, one that you weren’t expecting, but it doesn’t generally dump you on the ground and step on you.

I can’t tell if my question is “Is a novel like a horse?”

Or “Does visualizing the finished novel help you?”

Or “Does really wanting something really badly make it so?”

And for the record my instructor always said “Ride like you want it.”

So I try to Write like I want it.
