Meme and an x-mass memorey

from ani_bester

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you which song or movie you remind me of.
3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to eat with you.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me. (if possible. If not, I'll say something that only makes sense to me.)
5. I'll tell you my first most prominent memory of you .
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wondered about you.
8. I'll tell you my favorite thing about you.
9. I'll tell you my least favorite thing about you (if I can think of something, honestly on LJ, it's hard for me to dislike someone)
10. If you play, you should really post this on yours

ok - this is going to sound wierd.  And maybe a little sad - but I don't see it that way.  My strongest memory of an early x-mass (it must have been between 1974 and 1976) is of my dad and I standing outside a tree lot waiting for them to get rid of the trees that hadn't sold.  Back then you could get a christmas tree on teh 24th for free.  So after church we would go find a tree and then decorate it.  To this day it still feels wrong to have a tree before the 24th (even though I have a fake tree and so I could have it up as long as I would want).  Trees arn't free on Christmass eve anymore - that makes me very very sad.

I haven't seen the movie. Yet.

i loved the books. I'm more into werewolves and her's aren't bad - unfortunatly a lot of them were cut out of the last book...

Yes the vampires sparkle...

There are werewolves in that series of books? I didn't know, thought it's about vampires...

I've heard a lot of people were whining about 'sparkle' part - was it not canon for vampires? I'm not an expert in vampire lore, you know...

oh yeah - the middle two books are the clasic vampire/werewolf/human love triangle.

I'm no expert on Vampires either. I've read a bunch of Vampire books (becasue of the lack of good werewolf books) but I don't see the sparkley thing as against Lore. Vampire Lore (Like werewolf Lore) has enought space in it for just about everything. Both are things that have Lore all over the world and nothing is totlay in (except for drinking blood or Life Force) or out - after all Dracula walked in the sun. The Irish (and Manx) Vampires (Lian Shide) made a man produce a huge number of creative works before dieing (young) *shrug*

Yeah, i think it's lack of common lore (as rulesI make vampires theme unattractive for me - cos everyone can say everything and it'll be true. Maybe i'm not so versatile *sigh*

I get it that sparkles can be in the lore (cos there can be anything) i just don't get - why? I mean when author makes it possible for vampire to walk under the sun and it needs to say something (or for character to do something) it's ok but sparkles? What's purpose in it? It sounds kinda cheezy... maybe i don't see something there?

I've never been a fan of Vampires just becasue the thought of something takeing my life away a little at a time is just creepy. A Shapshifter eats you, or dosn't - it's simple.

Well in her case the book was based on a dream and he was sparkily in the dream.

Ah, thanx for explaining - the dream i understand :)

So about werewolves then - this lore has strong rules, right? I mean there's main lore and you have almost nothing to add to it or it changes everytime too?

yeah her dream - her world.

Werewolves have enought lore to sink a ship but there seem to be three main types

1) you are born a were (whatever) You see this mostly in Native American, French, Irish and Norse cultures. They are often Heroes. They may not be Wolves they may be bears or whatever.

2) you use magic to become a wolf (or whatever) - you've made a chioce to become whatever - through the use of magic (it can be your own or someone elses) sometimes these are heros as well (Mirlin did it as did Sigfeird)

2) someone curses you to become a werewolf. This was (in fact) one of St Patrick's miricals. He curesed people who didn't become Christian to be Wolves - ravinous wolves. This is the type that went into makeing the "Holywood" type werewolf. The wolf in this is bad news.

With in each type you get vareaition. The silver bullit thing was added on in the 50's. As was the becomeing a werewolf with a bite. So ther eis still room to 'play' with the Lore. Most of the things we think of as 'Werewolf' have no suport in Lore.

Huh, it's interesting how modern view changes lore...
If i get it right parts 2 and 3 can be humans and don't change themselves in wolves if they don't want to (or the spell was broken) but part 1 is already not human but mix of human with wolf?
And p1 are always heroes? I mean they never mentioned as bad thing? Just curious.
And Merlin was one of those who becomes animals? Can you tell me more about it?
Oh, i didn't know that about St Patrick... i thought he only exile snakes...

Type 1 can change back and forth whenever they like - think of it as truely haveing two forms. They don't always have to be heros (after all Coyote can cause trouble) many are warriors - so they would be heros in one story - but if they stroy was told from the other side they would be vilians.

type 2 and 3 start of as human but are changed by Magic. Yeah, Merlin changed his form, he was a Salmon and a Stag and probalby things I can't remember off of the top of my head.

Yeah St. Patric exiled snakes and cursed people - depending on what viersion you read the people he curesed either spent 7 years as a wolf or seven weeks as a wolf. It was passed down in familys. Like many Saints he wasn't the nicest of people

Thanx for explaining.

back to saints then - why they are saints after all if they weren't nice people? Maybe their deeds outweigh some bad they caused? I mean they're known as saints so there must be something good they did and good big enough to be remembered for it?
