question for f'list

Anybody know anything abotu Galviston TX?  I seem to have set a story there (it was jsut suposed to be off screen - but is now on screen) adn have been to TX a grand total of 2 hours my entire life - adn that was the Dallas airport - where I met soem very nice people and had some really bad coffee...

Why Galviston?  I was thinking about storms and ghosts and the combo of those two?  Galviston.

Well, it's spelled GalvEston for one. And it's on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. And it's about 8 hours from where I'm from so as a Texan that's about all I know. I can tell you all about Abilene!

There's actually a cool ghost story/urban legend about 20 miles north of Abilene in a smaller town called Anson. Look up the Anson lights if you're interested.

Never been to TX
Here's some thoughts though.

Get the name of the Galveston local paper, and click through the archives. It will give you a better feel for the town than anything touristy or a website selling real estate.

Re storms, they had New Orleans' hurricane disaster happen to them in 1900.

If you need help with the ghosts, you'll probably find enough right on this one page:

Maybe these?

Re: Never been to TX
Yeah, I picked it for the disaster. I like the idea of the local paper...

Do you know how embaressed I am to have to say no *L*
I've actually never been there myself. Closest I've come is Corpus Christy, which is very kinda dank and dirty.

I've heard the saem for Galviston. That area of Texas can have a run down feel in parts, so I've heard.

ETA: And see clearly I can't even spell the place either *LOL* All though from me that's more to be expected =P

(I have to run everything through spell check LOL)

My Mom lived in Brownsville for a while and says the only nice places in TX are San Antonio Autin and Dallas. She says SA is a greener warmer version of Boston (High prase from her)

I had posed to a freind "Is my knoledge of Cheap Hotells and Hospitals going to be a good subsititute for knoledge of Galveston?" and form your responce I'd say "Just might be"
