So you know those books that jsut sort of get under your skin and you keep thinking about them after?  I jsut read one of those.

Tinker   by Wen Spencer.

Set in a near future Pittsburgh that has been shifted to an alternet  earth called Elfhome.  So basicly faryland.  Pitt comes back to earth once a month to traid goods (steel for food and what not) it's still a steel town - in fact the steel mills and the ketsup factory have gone to Elfhome.

I don't know much about Pittsburgh but it flet right to me.  Unfortunatley I've also discoverd that if someone writes "Tall dark haired and Polish" only one person comes to mind... sigh*

Our hero is an 18 year old girl and she runs a scrap yard in Pittsburgh - on the night of "shutdown" when Pittsburgh goes back to earth an elf is chased into her scrap yeard by Wargs. It turns out to be an elf who had saved her life when she was 11. Now she has to save his life to cancle the'life debt' he holds over her. And in doing that she gets pulled into a plot that - well it coudl pritty much ruin Pittsburgh,

Also the nihgt when she was 11 she met Jared - er- Nathen (tall dark 25 year old polish cop)

It's a bit of a romance and I have no idea about the scince (since I know NO physics) the mytholigy seems alright (but I don't know much about Japanise Mythology)
