MS and OV for Fanatics!

this is a first draft - but it'll give you an idea of where we were going with this.  Input woudl be wonderful

Mission Statement:

Fanatics! Is a magazine about the current interests of the fans who enjoy science fiction and fantasy television shows, movies, games, books, cartoons, comics, flash fiction and fanfiction.

Fanatics! is a leisure magazine, targeting individuals with a strong interest in fantasy or science fiction movies, books, games, and periodicals.  Fanatics! is truly a magazine for the obsessive fans of these genres.  This magazine covers all the latest news about many science fiction and fantasy books and movies, their authors, the stars, gossip about what will come next, dates of upcoming events, and feedback from the fans.

Its focus is primarily on the fans’ opinions about characters, plot, relationships, mistakes in the continuity of these stories, and background.  More topics could include: what they believe will come next, what could have been done differently in the story, and fan theories about unsolved situations.  The magazine will feature discussions about what devoted fans are interested in.  Fan opinions can be discussed in a short article, in a group discussion (on the online magazine,) or in an open debate.

Fanatics! targets an audience of men and women from the age of twenty to thirty-five.  It includes writers, artists, thespians, students, moviegoers, comic book collectors, book collectors, science fiction and/or fantasy car collectors, musicians, teachers, gamers, and computer specialists both amateur and professional.  This magazine could eventually explore the potential of these up-and-coming talents.  Readers of this magazine may have also enjoyed: Starlog, Sci-Fi, The Pyramid Collection, among others.

Science fiction fanatics are usually males between the ages of 20 and 34+ with family ties that also enjoy science fiction.  This is not only their hobby but also their passion; they read and watch science fiction because it is something that really interests them and keeps them interested for years.  Likewise, the fantasy fans are also devoted to their favorite stories.  These individuals are composed of primarily females between the ages of 20-28.  While there are frequently males interested in fantasy and females interested in science fiction, the statistics show that there is a definite division in the gender difference for these genres, though there is very little evidence to support this observation.

This magazine is aimed at both of these fields, combining science fiction and fantasy together in one magazine.  In addition to that, however, Fanatics! is geared toward the fans participation in their particular interests, not just the genre itself.  Within Fanatics!, articles are written in the interests of the obsessed fan finding out the most in-depth details about the stories they support.  Hopefully, devoted fans would read these articles and perhaps gain a different understanding of an old idea, or newer fans might find their passion by reading pieces that strike a cord in their imaginations.
