Title: anniversary
Author: bodgei
Summery: Very short. I promised something happy, mind you I can’t remember who to (Maybe Tris?)
Disclaimer: Sam and Dean aren’t mine, Please don’t sue me, but if you do – I’m broke anyway so it won’t do you any good. Kate and Mare are.
Authors note: Part of the “Ten Years Gone” Saga. It happens after ‘Ten Years Gone’ but within the same year. I guess they got marred in June…

When I walk across to Sam and Kate’s to see if I should bring John home for the night., Sam is grading papers and Kate is asleep her head resting on Sam’s lap. Sam is writing comments on his student papers against the couch arm and with his other hand he is stroking Kate’s hair. He looks so relaxed, so happy and normal; there was a time when I thought I’d never see him like this.

“Why don’t you just take a picture, Dean?” Sam looked so focused that I didn’t think he had noticed me. I should have known better.

“You are just standing there staring at me – us.”

“I was wondering why you didn’t go out for your anniversary.”

“Don’t you think we’ve eaten out enough to last our whole lives?”

“It’s still nice to take your wife out Sam.”

“She was busy all day,” Sam shrugs and his hand drifts down to Kate’s shoulder, she shifts closer to Sam, “and she would have put on perfume and I like the way she smells this time of the year. Like flowers and grass and,” he shrugs again, “like summer.”

“Only you would think the smell of a woman who’s been mowing hay all day is sexy.”

“It’s not like she hasn’t showered,” he smiles up at me, the smile seems to say ‘this is my time with her and I would really like it if you left now’

“I should go,” I start to turn, “Oh hang on, I came to ask if you wanted me to keep John tonight?”

“What do you think?” he says looking down at Kate.

“I say keep the boy,” her voice is soft and sleepy. I wonder if she was awake for all of our conversation, it wouldn’t surprise me. And it wouldn’t surprise me if Sam knew she was as well. It would be like him to say things to me knowing she would hear them.

“OK well good night,” I say turning to the door, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Sure,” Sam’s voice is already distracted. He’s already back to enjoying the perfect life he’s made for himself. His perfect safe place, his home, his job his wife, all not what he had expected. But still so normal, so perfect.

Thanks... I needed to show them happy. I think they have a lot of happy times, they just seem to talk about bad times alot
