OK I don’t know exactly where to start so maybe I should start randomly.

The filming on this ep wasn’t my favorite. It was kinda spare, and that was fine considering the whole concept of the episode. There were no real ‘money shots’ for me, well maybe when Dean is looking at Sam and Ava through the window… but honestly it was a straight ahead, workman like ep. Nice but not as lush as we may be used to. But honestly I think most of the "High Cannon" eps have less focus on the on the camera craft, maybe it’s the creative staffs way of keeping people like me focused on the ep itself, so we don’t get distracted by the gorgeous shot of the falling jar of tomatoes (Hell House – and yes those were jars of tomatoes having there seeds collected) or the wonderful shot of the red hot poker reflected in Dean’s eye, or what not. I get distracted easily.

On the subject of "I get distracted easily"… Sam’s shoes. Sam has really expensive taste – he has a nice watch and now he is randomly using $200 shoes to set off grenades. OK I don’t KNOW that these were $200 shoes. They look like Blundstones – a riding boot company from Australia, but I didn’t see the little red spiders that are the logo for the company – I did look through any number of screen caps and noticed that they way the shoes are laying the trademark would be almost imposable to see and the area were further obliterated by smoke. Why do I care about this? Well it seems odd to me. Sam (and Jared himself to some extent) dresses like a "bush cowboy" in Carhartt and Wrangler and Cinch Jeans so honestly I was expecting a pair of traditional ropers to be the shoe in question – not a brand that is considered a more English style riding boot – heck why would Sam have riding boots anyway – let alone expensive imported riding boots… well they are pull on and Jared is lacking the thumb right now… OK enough on that I will just take that Sam likes $20 shirts but $200 shoes.

Ava: let me start off by saying I don’t have an opinion on this character yet. I don’t think we’ve seen enough of her. I DO feel like she is a replacement for Meg. Unfortunately I don’t feel the chemistry between her and Jared that I felt with him and the girl that played Meg or the girl that played Sarah. So if she is going to be his "love interest" this season I hope they don’t get around to it for quite sometime – and that by the time they get around to it they can get some chemistry together (I know this comment will make me unpopular but since basically no one reads my journal – I’m safe). Also I think the introduction of Ava supports my ‘the demon is trying to breed little psychics for the future’ theory.

I’ve read some comments the effect of "Sam gets all the girls Dean should get" and I have this to say about it. Sam likes a girl who walks up to him and challenges him in some way. He seems to want a woman who tests him – he wants to prove himself right from the get go. I would guess that Jess made some comment about him not doing as well in a class as her or something. He seems to want to start off a relationship thinking "I’ll show you" or something alone those lines. That’s not what Dean wants… well I don’t think it’s what Dean wants, we haven’t seen him start a REAL relationship with anyone, but I would guess he wants someone he can take care of. Sam wants to be challenged by someone; Dean wants to take care of someone. In some ways I think that Jo is a nice fit for Dean because she can understand the life the boys live AND he can take care of her – plus she’s pretty in the way Dean likes, blond and not curvaceous (where Sam seems to go for dark and totally curvaceous, with the exception of Jess and – well Meg had blond hair, but dark eyes anyway I digress on that). Sam’s girls are always going to come off as more interesting at first – because they are going to Jump right out of the box. Dean’s aren’t.

On the subject of silly little character things, I’d like to point out that once again Sam gets angry at Dean and the next thing we see is him stealing. Go back and check, pretty much every time they fight – or things are uncomfortable between them – we see Sam stealing or doing some B+E. Well except for "Scarecrow" (we don’t se him steal at all in that ep – mind you he SAYS he stole a car, we just don’t see it). I think it may be Sam’s way of Self Soothing. Other things about Sam this season – he’s squeamish about dead things – he wasn’t before Dad died and he never drives. I think both are part of his process of Mourning John. The dead body thing seems to be fading.

The scene where Dean tells Sam the secret. Well it still felt like they were in that old ‘I love you man’ Bud commercial. I was VERY pleased that Sam got angry, Sam normally just takes his role of ‘protected child who gets little or no information’ very well (well from Dean anyway) and I was afraid that Sam would just be like: "well I understand why you didn’t tell me" then sigh and they would go about figuring out what to do. The only way it would have been better is if Sam had yelled "I figured out what you were hiding from me WEEKS ago! Why don’t you ever TRUST me!? Why don’t you ever TELL me anything?!" It’s the gist of his arguments with John – Sam has spent his life working to be trusted by his family. Working to show them that he is as good as they are – but they never trust him, not completely. He’s always the baby, always the one who ‘doesn’t need to know’. That lack of trust from his family is the only thing that I can see pushing him over to the ‘dark side’. For the two boys to survive this upcoming ‘war’ intact and together two very simple and at the same time (almost) imposable things have to happen: Dean has to trust Sam (trust that he can handle ANYTHING that comes up) and not protect him, and Sam has to admit how much he needs Dean – how much he’s always needed Dean. Sam has to be willing to give up his control to get control and Dean has to give up protecting Sam to protect him. It’s the Gift of the Magi; they will both have to give up the thing that is most precious to them.

what I have a shoe fettish... I know that (It goes with the flashlight/ multi tool thing)

There are so many things that have come up in shuch small ways - stupid things like Sam always carying the lock picks... Dean: do you have the - / Sam: Yeah (tosses lockppicks) / Dean: Of course you do This says to me that Sam's JOB is B+E the boys have seprate skill sets (yes they overlap but togetehr Dean fights Sam steals and does the 'face on' cons. Sam is pissy in Deadman's Blood becasue Dad sent Dean to do Sam's job...

Also (totaly stupid) but I wonder if that pearl handeled gun is the one John gave Sam as a kid? It's the only one he has ever refered to as "My gun" and since he uses any number of guns it seemed wierd.

Think of the distractibility (and the fact that I still can hone in on the stupid stuff liek 'my gun' and what not) as a bonus of my learning disability... I have a very broaud focus adn a very big memory.
